Microsoft has announced at their E3 2010 conference that Kinect (previously Project Natal) will launch in North America on 4th November, and is fully compatible with all Xbox 360 units, old and new, including the new 'slim' model.
Kinect includes motion and voice commands for the dashboard, Zune video, Facebook, and Sky Player - waving hands can sign players in, whilst voice commands such as "Xbox stop" can pause a movie.
Software will also be lining up with a Kinect dashboard, namely Video Kinect. Video Kinect is a hands-free and microphone, free online video conferencing application, integrated with Xbox Live, MSN Messenger, and Bing. The inclusion of the search engine allows both parties to view web pages and video in the same screen.
Microsoft have also announced a partnership with ESPN to bring Kinect-interactive sport coverage to the dashboard. However, this is not expected to be available in Europe.
Fifteen games will be available at the launch of Kinect including: Your Shape Fitness Evolved, EA Active 2, Kinectimals, Sonic Free Riders, Dance Masters, Dance Central, Kinect Sports, Kinnect Joy Ride, Adrenalin Misfits, The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout, Kinect Adventures!, Motion Sports, and Game Party In Motion. Your Shape Fitness Evolved and Kinect! Adventures received the most showtime at the conference, with both looking as appealing and outright fun as their Wii parallels, if not more. Other games include unnamed Star Wars and Forza titles, with them both dated for 2011.
Overall, the conference provided everything that was expected of Kinect, apart from the lack of our virtual friend Milo, who went unmentioned even by his creator Peter Molynieux. More news on Kinect, including the sadly lacking UK release date and price, will be right here on Gamebrit as it happens.
