UK videogame retailer GAME has announced that the company has started placing warning stickers on pre-owned games that do not include any advertised DLC codes.
The move comes after a number of consumers complained about pre-owned sales being misleading due to the games packaging, including the likes of Dragon Age: Origins, advertising an included DLC code. However, due to the single-use nature of DLC packs-in of course no second-hand titles on sale include the added bonus, with the code having already been used when the game was new.
A spokesperson from GAME spoke to gaming industry trade magazine MCV about the move:
“We have been developing a policy for notifying customers at the point of purchase which was implemented last week in-store, Pre-owned copies of applicable titles have stickers on them saying ‘check with staff for availability of downloadable content’, giving staff the chance to explain clearly the difference so that our customers understand the benefits of buying both pre-owned and mint.”
