Train2Game, a UK based alternative games industry training program, is about to introduce a new course into their system, whilst further pushing advertising. Available from the 19th April, a Games Artist and Animator course will be added to their system that has previously been benchmarked by the Qualifications Credit Framework as the equivilent of the first two years of a degree course.
Since it's inception last year, Train2Game has attracted over 1,800 students. The increased intrest in more specific games industry training comes as gaming studios suggest that a more tailoured education is needed to reduce the training time required in-house.
The learning provider is backed by, the UK video games industry trade association - TIGA, which acts as an examination body for the courses, Bedfordshire University (where it has been incorporated into their own course), Portsmouth University and various games studios themselves. Tony Bickley, Chief Operations Officer at DR Studios, who is also Course Director for Train2Game, spoke on the addition of the new courses, “We’re pleased to announce the Games Artist and Animator course as the latest addition to our portfolio of courses. Skilled video games artists are sought very highly as the visual style of a game really influences the gaming experience. We are confident that the course will help provide an excellent gateway into the industry.”
Our own Michael Slevin is taking part in the Train2Game games design course and had this to say about the scheme, "The price of entry might be high, but it is a definite step in gaining knowledge about the industry and is a crucial foot on the ladder."
A new advert is set to go live during this weeks 'The Gadget Show', until then a teaser can be found on the Train2Game website.
