As part of a recent interview with Critical Gamer, Media Molecule have all but confimed that LittleBigPlanet won't be getting a sequel. This comes in the form of a quote from the producer when talking about DLC and updates - “I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.”
As well a comment from one of the level designers when discussing how a sequel could fragment the community - “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.”
Given the user generated content that this game revolves around it's not that much of a surprise that a follow-up isn't likely. In this day and age of patches and additional features, LittleBigPlanet has plenty of room to evolve. One such way is through the future inclusion of water which is currently being beta tested.
