Conservative Culture Minister Ed Vaizey has said the Government aren't providing the appropriate support for the UK video game industry. Vaizey stated that his party will help the industry by extending Film Council credits, encourage investment in broadband, and support it's needs to "succeed and expand in the global economy" all of which will help in the industries recognized issue in raising capital.
Alongside the pledge Vaizy quoted research that found the UK game sector has the potential to shrink by 16.5% over the upcoming five years, resulting in a loss of "£180 million in external investment and nearly 1,700 jobs". He made this announcement at the London Games Conference saying that "Politicians need to take this industry seriously and promote [it] consistently. ... The industry needs a voice at the national level, and we will explore how best to effect this. There needs to be a renewed focus on the skills you need to continue to grow."
It's certainly good news that issues of the UK video game industry are being recognised, hopefully the fact that it's been touched upon by Ministers means that action is taken regardless as to who wins the next general election.
