Retailer GAME Indirectly Introduce Console Rentals

Have you been looking to pick up a Wii U to give Mario Kart 8 a try? Maybe you’ve been considering grabbing a Vita for those nifty cross-play features. Well, thanks to a new console trade-in scheme currently on offer at UK retailer GAME, you can now ‘try before you buy’ — sort of.

The unique offer, posted on the GAME website and via social media, allows customers to buy a selected console or handheld and then sell it back to the retailer at the end of the summer for a set, predetermined sum.

Here’s how it works:

  • Buy a console (lets say a Wii U for example) for £179.99 at GAME.
  • Play the console throughout the summer, up until the cut off date of September 4th.
  • Return the console to receive a trade-in value of £160.
  • You’ve just had two months of Wii U gaming for just under £20.

So, although technically advertised as a trade-in deal, in effect GAME has introduced a novel way to rent/lease a console. Admittedly however, you do need the money for the console upfront.

The offer is valid on certain models of the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U, and as ever terms and conditions apply. You can get a console or handheld as part of this promotion up until the end of July.
