Mario Kart Comes To TV, Race Highlights To Be Shown On E4
Nintendo and UK broadcaster Channel 4 announced plans Friday to show in-game race highlights from upcoming Wii U racer Mario Kart 8 on Freeview channel E4.
Due for release on Friday, May 30th, Mario Kart 8 allows players to share highlight footage from their races, no doubt featuring plenty of amusing banana-peel slip moments, directly via YouTube and Nintendo’s own MiiVerse social network.
The partnership between Nintendo and Channel 4’s E4 will see chosen ‘Mario Kart TV’ clips shown on television each evening over the course of a week.
UK Mario Kart 8 players will be able to enter a competition — the winners of which will see their highlights broadcast on the free-to-view channel. Player clips will be shown, alongside their names, at 08:10pm each evening from Monday, June 2nd until Friday, June 6th. The chosen winners will also receive a real-life Mario Kart cup.
Viewers of E4 will have the chance to win the Nintendo home console.
Roger Langford, Mario Brand Manager at Nintendo UK said:
“Mario Kart TV is a great addition to the Mario Kart functionality and we think it’s something that fans will really enjoy. It’s great to rewatch in detail those key moments in the race, whether it’s getting blue-shelled, exploring the new anti-gravity mode or reliving your victory as you cross the finish line, E4 is a perfect vehicle for highlighting this feature to a young and engaged audience and we’re looking forward to seeing the entries.”
