Skylanders - Isle of Skye

The practice of town twinning is no longer just limited to the physical world, as a Scottish island has twinned with the virtual world of the popular Skylanders series.

The Isle of Skye, located off the west coast of Scotland, is to be twinned with Skylands, the digital world setting for the Activision game. According to Visit Scotland the partnership is a world first, with no other link between a real-world locale and a virtual one like this existing before.

Speaking about the twinning Visit Scotland’s Alan Mackenzie said:

“The Isle of Skye is renowned for its stunning landscapes, which possess an almost ethereal quality, and its abundance of wildlife, making it the perfect place to virtually twin with Skylands, home to Skylanders: Swap Force.”

“We’re thrilled to be teaming up with the Skylanders franchise for this unique partnership, which will help raise the profile of this beautiful part of the world, encouraging families to enjoy a real-life adventure on the Isle of Skye.”

The latest game in the Skylanders series, dubbed Skylanders: Swap Force is due for release on Friday, October 18th.

Those wanting to learn more about the island can visit the official Isle of Skye website, and Skylanders fans will want to type ‘SWAP’ when they visit the page for a hidden surprise.
