LoveFilm could drop support for game rentals
LoveFilm, the Amazon-owned streaming and rental company, could soon be dropping support for videogame rentals.
An email sent by the company on Friday, June 21st to LoveFilm’s affiliate marketing partners details how things could soon be changing for games-by-post customers. LoveFilm’s email details that the firm “will no longer be offering customers the chance to rent games through the LOVEFiLM by Post service“.
The message continued asking affiliate marketing partners to remove any promotional material currently advertising the games-by-post service.
No further information on the change was provided.
Despite the message, those looking to sign up for games-by-post can still do so (at time of writing), with game packages still showing as available on the site. Current games-by-post customers have not been informed of any potential upcoming changes in service.
LoveFilm currently offers rentals for a number of platforms, including the PS2, PS3, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS. Support for Nintendo’s Wii U console is inconsistent.
UPDATE (Monday, June 24): When asked about the possible change, LoveFilm’s Customer Services team said the following via Direct Message on Twitter:
“As far as Customer Services is aware we are still renting games by post on the platforms we support. If you are speaking about PS4 and Xbox One we do not have any info on this at present”.
Gamebrit has contacted LoveFilm for further clarification.
