Zynga’s Draw Something Coming To Channel 4
Zynga’s Draw Something is to be turned into a TV game show for Channel 4.
The word-game hit the big time early last year, racking up over 50-million app downloads in just five weeks. Original developer Omgpop was subsequently quickly snapped up by Farmville-creator Zynga.
Now, the Pictionary-clone is to be turned into a new Channel 4 show, going by the name of ‘Draw It‘. Produced by Victory Television for Sony Pictures Television, the show is to be created with creative input from rights-holder Zynga.
The show will reportedly see both members of the public and celebrities working together to tackle a range of drawing challenges against the clock.
Victoria Ashbourne of Victory Television said they “we’re very excited to work with Channel 4” on a show “inspired by one of the biggest hits in app history”.
Of course, this won’t be the first time a show based around the game of Pictionary has hit our screens. Win, Lose or Draw, hosted by the likes of Danny Baker and Shane Richie, ran from 1990 to 1998 on ITV. Here’s a clip of Win, Lose or Draw.
Channel 4 are said to have ordered a full series of Draw It, the latest take on the word guessing game.
UPDATE (May 25th, 2014): The first series of the Zynga-inspired Draw It started airing on Channel 4 on May 5th, 2014, with Great British Bake Off star Mel Giedroyc assuming hosting responsibilities. You can find out more about the show on Channel 4’s website.
