Independent developer Stormy Studio, based in Surrey, have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their new title — a point and click horror adventure game called ‘Dark Asylum – The 7 Lost Souls‘.

The small team are looking to raise £20,000 to invest in facilities, additional people and the required man hours for which to complete the project. The studio, if successful, hopes to release the completed game on mobile, tablet devices and the PC in the new year.

As with all Kickstarter campaigns a range of rewards are on offer depending on the amount pledged, ranging from humble t-shirts to more personal rewards, such as having a portrait of you placed in-game for players to discover. Those choosing to pledge just that little bit more get the chance to be an in game character.

Jon Draper, an award winning animator, is leading the Stormy Studio team. Draper himself will be working on Dark Asylum’s 3D modelling and programming. Avid photographer Andre Govia will be supplying his vast back-catalogue of photos. Govia’s pictures, taken at various asylums and dilapidated hospitals across the globe, are set to be used to give the game its unique and grounded look and feel.

The campaign, which launched in late November, if offering backers access to the completed game across all promised formats for £5.

As ever with Kickstarter this project must reach its full target in order to receive any funding. At time of writing the point and click project has garnered nearly £3,000 in pledges — the deadline to reach £20,000 is January 1st, 2013.

It may be a hard sell getting folks to part with their cash over the typically tight festive period, but on the flip side it is the season of giving, so check out the video to see see whether this scary point and click is worth your fiver.
