Lionhead Staff Face Redundancy Following Fable Release
A number of staff at Lionhead Studios were notified Wednesday of upcoming redundancies, following an announcement on October 16 that Microsoft would be downsizing the studio by ten percent.
Microsoft explained that the reduction in workforce at the Guildford-based studio is a “common” practice, occurring when a project comes to an end. Lionhead Studios recently completed work on Fable: The Journey, which has struggled to excite at retail.
In a statement to IGN Microsoft explained that:
“a very small number of positions have been identified as at risk of redundancy and the affected employees were notified today. We are working very closely with those people during this difficult time, to help them explore alternative opportunities within Microsoft including new roles at Microsoft Studios which is actively hiring.”
Those facing redundancies are expected to be leaving their roles by the end of the year. However, despite these reductions Microsoft claims that it hopes to add more than 100 new staff positions across all of their UK studios by June of 2013.
Gamebrit extends the best of luck to those affected by the news.
