EA’s annual kick-about FIFA 13 sold more than one million copies in its first week on sale in the UK, significantly boosting week-by-week software sales by 196% and pushing revenues up by a massive 282%.
Last years FIFA instalment was bested with a 27% sales increase, managing a gain of 31% in revenue year-on-year.
The short-lived best launch of 2012, Borderlands 2 of last week, drops to second following a 60% drop in sales. F1 2012 (-38%) also falls a short distance to third from second. The latest World of Warcraft instalment Mists of Pandaria debuts at fourth on PC from a midweek launch, ahead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 which drops down two places from third to complete the top five.
New entry Rocksmith fails to defy Sleeping Dogs at sixth from fourth, but gets in ahead of riser The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which jumps five places to eighth. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and New Super Mario Bros. 2 tumble four and three places respectively to complete the top ten.
Other new titles this week include Dead or Alive 5 at eleventh, Angry Birds Trilogy at sixteenth and Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition at seventeenth.
The new PlayStation 3 ‘Super Slim’, shown off at the recent Tokyo Game Show, also released in the UK this week, boosting PS3 hardware sales up 138%, with the new 500GB version marking 37% of those sold.
