UK Chart: Borderlands 2 Achieves Best 2012 Launch

| comments

Borderlands 2 has taken over at the top of the UK Chart, with the most successful launch of 2012. The sequel beat the launch of the 2009 original by more than four to one.

Gearbox Software’s new chart-topper also outsold the launch of Mass Effect 3 by some 4,000 copies, which up until now held claim to the most successful launch of 2012.

Borderlands 2 proved hugely popular on the Xbox 360 in its first week, with 71% of copies sold against 22% on the PlayStation 3 and 7% on PC.

F1 2012 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 also enter the chart in high positions this week at second and third respectively. Sleeping Dogs gains +1%  sales from last week, but falls from first to fourth. Lego Batman 2 (-19%) completes the top five this week, after falling from third.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is the last new release in the top ten, landing at sixth. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (-13%) falls three places to seventh, ahead of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (-51%) which falls a hefty six places down to eighth. Guild Wars 2 (+11%) gains sales at ninth, but can’t help dropping from seventh, far from the top spot of three weeks ago. Another positive boost keeps Max Payne 3 (+34%) in tenth place as others fall around it.
