Nintendo To Reveal European Wii U Details This Week

Published September 11, 2012 by |

UPDATE: Nintendo President Saturo Iwata has sent a tweet confirming that information regarding the Wii U’s launch date and price will be shared this week. Iwata was speaking specifically about an upcoming Nintendo of Japan presentation, but his words are taken as confirmation that global details are on the way.

Nintendo has confirmed that they will be holding a Nintendo Direct presentation later this week, where it is expected information on the European launch of the upcoming Wii U home console will finally be shared.

Late last month Nintendo of America announced that they will be holding a press conference on Thursday, September 13 in New York, where details pertaining to the console’s US launch will be divulged.

However, following the announcement many fans were left wondering when details regarding the European launch would be shared. Speculation was not put to rest when a Nintendo of Europe representative told Digital Spy that:

“We are not planning a specific European event like NOA, however we are looking to put the new Wii U console in the hands of as many people across Europe as possible and we will be in contact with news of our UK communications plan in the near future.”

This comment, along with the general silence regarding European Wii U details, led to further concern as to when final details regarding the touchscreen console’s European debut would actually arrive.

All unease can now be put to rest as full details, including the Wii U release date, are expected to be shared this week.

The European Nintendo Direct broadcast, confirmed by NoE President Satoru Shibata in a recent tweet, is scheduled for this Thursday. The broadcast will start at 3PM GMT and will run alongside the American press event.
