PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Revealed

Published April 27, 2012 by |

If last weeks reveal of a new God of War game wasn’t enough for you then Sony have offered up another exclusive in the form of long-rumored PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. While the title may be somewhat of a mouthful, the premise of the game seems relatively straightforward with PlayStation figurehead characters battling it out on a single plain environment in a combat style highly reminiscent of Nintendo’s Smash Bros. titles.

Playable characters revealed so far are Fat Princess, PaRappa the Rapper, Kratos from God of War, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal and a Helghast soldier from Killzone. All seem to have their own styles and while not all hail from games featuring fighting they have all been given moves that match their previous outings. For example Fat Princess can use cake and her trusty villagers in battle while PaRappa uses music, skateboarding and Kung Fu as his weapons of choice.

The game arenas shown so far seem lavishly detailed, featuring interactive portions such as Hades’ claws attacking players during each round. No specific game modes have been revealed so far however both single and multiplayer are being catered for with a tournament available online. Cooperative gameplay will also feature so players won’t always be fighting against each other.

While the first gameplay footage shown above confirms the title, rumours of a ‘Sony Smash Bros.’ game have been circling for some time, first Sony registered the games URL, and then evidence was ‘accidentally’ revealed by the developers.

Providing the controls and remaining characters are as interesting as those revealed so far then there’s the potential for new developers SuperBot Entertainment to have a serious hit on their hands for their debut release.
